How to Give Priceless Gifts For Christmas Day 4

DCD-day-4

Can you keep a secret?  This gift requires more than confidentiality – it requires anonymity.  There is some sneaking, tip toeing and hiding involved.  Are you up for the challenge?  This is the gift of undercover kindness.

Matthew 6:3 -4 “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

I was thinking about this verse and comparing it to how we “do Christmas”.  Is that how you usually give and/or recieve gifts?   Be honest.  We all fill out the TO/FROM tags completely because we want people to know who bought the wonderful gift inside.  Often  we give so that we can receive recognition, praise, and maybe even admiration from the giver.

I want to challenge you to DO CHRISTMAS DIFFERENTLY.

1.  Leave a gift for someone and don’t leave any clues as to who delivered it.

It can be large or small, indulgent or practical.  It doesn’t matter, just give it in secret.  Don’t tell anyone what you have done.

2.  Give a gift to a complete stranger anonymously.

These are really fun.  Pay it forward in the drive-thru.  Leave a gift card with cashier at Starbucks and secretly tell her to pay for as many people as possible before it runs out.  Sit in and watch your blessing secretly.

3.  Send a gift to person that you have never met.

Sounds crazy, right?  Consider Samaritan’s Purse’s Gift Catalog.  You can send clean water, livestock, and various other necessities anonymously.  Get creative with this!

It doesn’t matter where you invest your kindness, but it does matter how.  If you tell the whole world when you do it, then your full reward is whatever response you get.  But when you sow kindness in secret, you reap a heavenly harvest.

If you are willing to give at least one gift in secret leave a comment below that says I’M IN!  Praying for you as we “Do Christmas Differently” this year.   #DCD

  • This is so good. This is how we keep Christmas about Christ. If we direct less attention on who gave the gift and more on the blessing of a gift being received we completely allow Christ to be the center of each exchange.
    • Hi Rachel. You are right! The Bible says where are treasure is, our heart is also. The way we give shows what’s important to us – is it the recognition or is it blessing someone else. Thank you for the comment.
  • We have done this at Christmas and it really does make a difference. Sharing a gift with someone who doesn’t know who you are is very enlightening. Thank you for the reminder!
    • Thank you for sharing Elizabeth. Giving is one of those things that blesses both the giver and receiver. Tomorrow’s gift idea is a bit crazy. Check it out.
