NO FREAKING OUT!
I’m not freaking out. NOPE! Not gonna do it! The news is reporting that a lady flew to Cleveland and back to Texas. She has now tested positive for the disease Ebola. Every station, every news outlet, even the mayor has issued a “Breaking News” banner to alert viewers of possible contamination. Social media is on fire with the stories, the opinions, the advice. Don’t fly. Don’t leave home. Don’t cough. Don’t breath.
I’m not freaking out.
When they announced the first case in the United States, I decided that I would not subscribe to hysteria. This is not my normal response. I am usually the first one searching symptoms and prevention. But this time was different for me. Let me share with you the verse that gives me peace.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
What we see is daunting, scary, crazy, panic inducing. So we have to make a choice. We have to fix our eyes on what is unseen. If what’s on television is causing terror to rise in your heart – turn it off and fix your eyes elsewhere. If facebook is sending you running for the hazmat suits, gloves and masks – then turn it off and fix your eyes elsewhere. Abundant life isn’t lived in the prison of fear.
These epidemics are temporary. This scare, like others, will pass. God has not changed! His hand is on the situation. There is NO NEED TO FEAR! There is no need to PANIC!
Fix your eyes on what is unseen. What you see right now is temporary.
Eternal needs your attention! Get faith-focused!
