Sexual Healing

Sexual Healing

When did you know you needed it?  Was it after the rape or possibly the second you saw that first naked image, was it when trust was broken and shame was carried. Was it after he snapped the pic and you didn’t have proof but you felt like your body had been shared? Was it the inappropriate touch at a sleepover or a friend who became an intimate foe? Was it the abortion?  Was it the guilt of admitting there had been too many partners to remember them all or even worse the fleeting thought that some may not even remember you?  Was it what you witnessed your mom go through or what you suffered at the hands of your dad? Was it divorce or trauma or threats or too many drinks or drugs?  Was it when you couldn’t make the memories stop replaying?

When did you know you needed sexual healing?

When did you know you needed it?  Was it when you knew it was wrong but continued or when you decided to wait but felt like what’s the wait for?  Was it when your silence was mistaken as consent? Was it after the boundary had been crossed or the decision had been made not to stop?  Was it when you broke your internal vow to never ever do it again until… When did you know you needed it?

Sexual Healing is a term associated with a catchy Marvin Gay tune.  He sings to a catchy beat and sets the mood for an escapade with a lady who is just one call away to help him relieve the built up tension.  The beat is good, the rhythm will make you dance, but the song doesn’t tell anyone how to get to the healing part.  The statistics are shocking: 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys have been sexually abused before the age of 18.  So that means that so many women and men are coming out of their teens with trauma and they keep quiet stay silent hide it away and build a fortress of shame around their heart. They don’t even know they need it – sexual healing.

Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God believe also in me.”  Do we believe that there is healing from abuse, trauma, hurt and brokenness?  Do you believe  that there is healing for you in the area of sexuality?

Do you believe  that there is healing for you in the area of sexuality?

I don’t know what your healing will look like.  Maybe God will remove the memories that transport you back to a time that makes you cringe as if it is occurring in the present. Maybe your healing will allow your husband to enjoy you fully without the reservation of your past. Maybe it will be to shed the condemnation of promiscuity and discover that God has loved you all along.  Maybe it is the power to unsubscribe from pornographic websites.  Maybe it’s to actually forgive others who hurt you or allowed the hurt.  I don’t know what your healing looks like but I know God can do it.

In the book Suprised By the Healer Dr. Juli Slattery and Linda Dillow share stories of nine women who met Jesus as a healer in the brokenness of very different sexual experiences.  Here is what I know: reading their testimonies will unlock hope for so many different areas of every life!  He didn’t just limit His healing power to one area.  He has the power to bring us healing spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally and yes, even sexually.

He has the power to bring us healing spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally and yes, even sexually.

When did you know that you needed healing?  What did you do?  Did you ask for it?  Our Father stands ready to begin that healing journey.  So whether something happened 2 minutes ago, 2 months ago, 2 decades ago or 2 generations ago pray this with me today:

Pray with Me

Heavenly Father,

You know every tear I have ever cried and the ones that I have held in.  You know my struggles and the deepest secrets my heart holds on to.  You know me and you know what every day of my life has ever held and will ever hold.  Today I bring to you the burden that I have been carrying.  I know your desire is for me to lay it down at your feet.  Today I am willing to pour out my heart to you and ask you to fill me with healing so that I can move forward, forgive, experience joy and heal.  Lord, I want to experience the healing you have promised in every area of my life and I am NOT holding back any area.  I step out in complete boldness asking you to do what no one else can do.  Lord I am asking for restoration and healing in my sexuality.  You know every area that has not lined up with your will for my life both at the hands of others and decisions I’ve made for myself.  I come into full agreement with Your will for my life and I release anger, hurt and shame and I receive your love, restoration, and healing.  I’m willing to walk with you through this journey TO VICTORY.    Thank you for being Lord of my mind, body, and spirit.  Thank you for healing my heart and saving my soul.

Thank you for healing my heart and saving my soul.

IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY,

AMEN

  • So many hurting souls – and I truly appreciate your encouragement for each one: “I don’t know what your healing looks like but I know God can do it.” Yes. God knows all our hearts, our hurts, and histories, and He can heal anything. Prayer is a beautiful way to begin.
  • Hi Tesha, This is a beautiful invitation to those women who have not dared to go to The Father God for healing. Thank you for sharing! You are an encouragement to those who hear and read your words. Hopefully we will run into each other at the conference! Blessings, Ginger aka “Ann” from (SBTH)
